About Another Way Tutoring

Who I Am

I believe in empowering students with the tools, study skills and learning resources they need to achieve academic success. I am a certified elementary teacher and special educator for children with mild to moderate disabilties and have experience teaching children with specific learning disabilities in writing, reading, and math, Dyslexia, Dsygraphia, ADHD, Autism, Mental Impairment, and Social/Emotional disabilities. I taught special education in public schools grades K-8 for 8 years before establishing Another Way Tutoring in 2017. I am a dog mom, love to garden, read, and learn, and struggle with multiple autoimmune and immune diseases. For as long as I remember, teaching children with special needs has been my passion. A passion that began while witnessing a family member, with disabilties, thrive through receiving the right instruction and supports based on their individual needs, their hard work and determination, and the lifelong impact that the right instruction and supports can make for a child. As a teacher, I focus on the specific learning needs of your child and who they are as a learner, utilizing assessments for progress monitoring & to inform lesson planning, implementing motivation through the use of positive behavior reinforcement and incentives, providing motor breaks, alternative seating, and fidgets depending on your child's needs, building a collaborative student-parent-teacher relationship, with the goal of empowering your child to thrive in school and in life. I provide in person tutoring at Another Way Tutoring's office or connect remotely, whichever is most convenient and suits your particular needs.

Testimonials

Ashling has changed our family's life. Working with my daughter, she has been able to accelerate her reading comprehension by two grade levels in 7 months, and we aren't done yet! Not only is this achievement amazing for my daughter...but it has also given her the confidence she needs to keep growing academically. Ashling has an amazing approach with the students she supports. She makes them feel comfortable and excited to learn. She does a great job of assessing where the student is, identifying the tools they need and then putting it all into practice.

Tracy Friedenberg, parent of 6th grade student

Another Way Tutoring helped both of my children immensely. Mrs. Belair tutored my son weekly to help him pass the science MCAS given in ninth grade. She created lessons to help him learn terminology, theories and equations, going at my son’s pace until he grasped the information. All work well done as he passed MCAS. After MCAS was done, time was spent on different subjects or projects for Spanish, English, and Math that my son needed added or more explicit teaching. Mrs. Belair took time to prepare/research to help inform my son on any given subject. She always gave updates on his progress of sessions.
Mrs. Belair tutored our elementary daughter, through middle school, in math as well. She was very creative with teaching Karley (who doesn’t like to sit still). They played games to keep her in motion and learn at the same time. Mrs. Belair assessed our daughter at where she was despite what grade she was in and worked from there. Always at regular intervals, she assessed her for what she was learning, where her skills were and areas that needed more attention.

Both of our children are on IEPs and Mrs. Belair was of great help with annual meetings, giving suggestions for goals or recommending assessments that the school may be able to provide and documenting for the meetings what she had been covering during tutor sessions; even at times coming to the IEP meetings. Mrs. Belair takes time to listen to parents as well as the student to best figure out a good approach to meet both interested parties. She has been a valuable investment in both of our children’s educational success. We are grateful for her!!
